이재용 삼성전자 부회장 측 변호인들은 '국정농단' 사건의 영재센터 후원의 본질에 대해 이같이 주장했다. 영재센터 후원이 '2018 평창올림픽' 공식 후원사인 삼성전자가 국내에서 동계스포츠 영재 발굴이라는 공익적 목적을 판단하면서도 대통령의 거절할 수 없는 요청을 받았기 때문에 '수동적' 지원에 나설 수밖에 없었다는 얘기다.
