덕분에 그가 맡을 수 있는 역할의 스펙트럼도 넓어지고 있다. 2년 전까지만 해도 “‘사’자 들어가는 직업은 해본 적이 없다”고 했지만 올해는 ‘동백꽃’에서 이혼전문변호사로 이름을 날렸고, 작년엔 ‘라이프’와 ‘무법 변호사’에서 각각 대학병원 비서실장과 지방 소도시 비선 실세로 활약했다. 작품마다 제법 결이 달라서 “같은 배우인지 못 알아봤다”는 반응이 계속됐다. 섭섭할 법도 한데 그는 그 말을 “가장 듣고 싶은 칭찬”으로 꼽았다. 상투적 역할에서 벗어나고자 덧붙인 한 끗의 다름이 모여 제법 다른 얼굴을 빚어냈음을 방증하는 말이기 때문이다. 그가 맡은 역할의 비중이 커질수록 그가 만들어내는 변화 역시 더 커질 수 있지 않을까.
