9일, 영국 매체 기브미 스포츠는 광진구아파트이사 프리미어리그에서 뛰어난 활약을 펼치고 있는 18명의 선수를 선정해 '월드클래스'와 '월드클래스 아닌 선수'로 구분했다. 기브미 스포츠는 월드클래스의 기준은 사람마다 다르지만, 이번 분류는 세계 어느 팀을 가도 주전으로 뛸 수 있는 선수를 월드클래스의 기준으로 삼았다고 밝혔다. 만약 호날두나 메시 수준의 선수만 '월드클래스'로 분류한다면 상봉동포장이사 프리미어리그에서 월드클래스를 뽑기란 불가능하기 때문이다.
손흥민은 당당하게 월드클래스 평가를 받은 9명에 이름을 올렸다. 기브미 스포츠는 "우승이 없는 스퍼스에서 손흥민은 항상 월드클래스와 그 언저리에 있는 선수였지만 지난 시즌부터 진정한 월드클래스에 도달했다"고 평했다. 이어 "이번 시즌 11경기에서 10골을 기록한 것만으로도 알 수 있다. 또 단순히 숫자로 수원사다리차 말할 수 없는 잊을 수 없는 순간을 만들어내기도 했다"며 "지난 시즌에 번리를 상대로 넣은 골이 리그 '올해의 골'을 수상했다"고 밝혔다.
