이탈리아 방송 RAI’의 일본야구중계 보도에 따르면 로시가 10일 사망한 채로 발견됐다. 정확한 사인은 아직 밝혀지지 않았다.
로시는 1982년 스페인월드컵에서 6골로 득점왕을 차지하며 이탈리아를 우승으로 이끈 전설의 공격수다. 특히 로시는 1982년 포장이사견적 월드컵에서 해트트릭을 터트려 이탈리아가 브라질을 3-2로 꺾는데 결정적으로 공헌했다. 로시는 3-1로 이긴 서독과의 결승전에서도 골을 넣어 우승에 기여했다.
그는 유벤투스와 AC 밀란에서 뛰며 세리에 우승과 유러피안컵 우승을 차지했다. 그는 클럽에서 통산 338경기에 나서 134골을 넣고 1987년 은퇴했다.
로시와 방송을 함께 했던 엔리코 일본야구중계 바리알레 아나운서는 “끔찍한 뉴스다. 1982년 월드컵 우승으로 국민들에게 사랑을 받았다. 최근까지 방송국에서 동료로 함께 했다”며 안타까워했다.
