잉글랜드 프로축구 프리미어리그(EPL) 토트넘홋스퍼 공격수 손흥민(28)이 소속팀 통산 100호골을 노린다. 마침 상대는 유독 강했던 레스터 시티다.
토트넘은 20일 오후 11시 15분(이하 한국시간) 영국 가평스카이차 런던의 토트넘홋스퍼 스타디움에서 레스터와 2020∼2021 EPL 14라운드 경기를 치른다. 토트넘의 1위 탈환 여부와 손흥민의 대기록 작성에 이목이 쏠리는 한 판이다.
토트넘은 지난 17일 리버풀전에서 1-2로 석패하며 1위 자리를 내줬다. 토트넘이 패배에 빠진 사이, 하루 먼저 경기를 소화한 리버풀은 크리스털 팰리스를 7-0으로 대파하며 골득실에서도 크게 앞서며 선두 자리를 굳건히 했다. 토트넘이 추격하기 위해서는 레스터를 반드시 잡아야 한다. 조세 모리뉴 토트넘 감독이 믿는 선수는 ‘에이스’ 손흥민이다.

지금 기세라면 손흥민은 이번 경기에서 토트넘 소속 ‘100호 골’ 달성할 확률이 높다. 때마침 만나는 상대는 레스터. 손흥민은 화성사다리차 레스터전에서만 무려 5골을 넣으며 그동안 ‘레스터 천적’으로 거듭났다. 최근 맞대결에서도 선발 출전한 손흥민은 레스터 수비수의 자책골을 유도하며 팀 선제골에 기여한 바 있다.
