'더 가디언'이 커쇼를 주목한 이유는 월드시리즈 우승에 있다. 다저스는 올 시즌 1988년 이후 32년 만에 월드시리즈 우승을 프로토분석 차지했다. 커쇼는 다저스 에이스 선발투수로 수년 동안 월드시리즈 우승에 도전했다. 커쇼는 2008년부터 2019년까지 12시즌 동안 총 9번 포스트시즌에 나섰지만, 우승과 인연을 맺지 못했다.
그러나 올 시즌은 달랐다. 기량 하락세가 보이며 전성기에서 내려오고 있는 커쇼였지만, 신종 코로나바이러스 감염증(코로나19)으로 단축된 시즌에서 10경기에 선발 등판해 6승 2패 평균자책점 2.16이라는 빼어난 성적을 서울포장이사 거뒀다. 포스트시즌에서는 5경기에 선발 등판해 4승 1패 평균자책점 2.93을 기록했다.
그동안 포스트시즌에서 커쇼는 총 158⅓이닝을 던지며 평균자책점 4.43을 기록했다. 2점대의 통산 평균자책점과 비교하면 크게 부진한 성적이다. 그러나 올해는 이를 떨쳤다. 포스트시즌 부진했던 커쇼와는 다른 경기력이었다.
'더 가디언'은 "커쇼가 2020년 월드시리즈에서 가장 가치 있는 선수는 아니었다. 그는 극적인 순간에도 관여하지 않았다. 결정적인 용인포장이사 경기에도 출전하지 않았다. 그러나 2020년 야구를 돌아볼 때 앞으로 몇 년 동안 다저스 우승과 관련된 이름으로 커쇼가 언급될 것이다"고 말했다.
