매체는 '맥과이어는 2010년 1라운드로 토론토 블루제이스에 지목을 받은 투수다. 토론토와 LA 다저스, 신시내티 레즈, LA 에인절스 등에서 뛰었다. 메이저리그 통산 27경기를 던지고 일찍 사무실용달이사 한국으로 무대를 옮겨 지난해 삼성에서 뛰었다. 키 198cm에 몸무게 100kg으로 좋은 체격 조건을 갖췄다. 맥과이어는 다시 아시아 무대로 돌아온 것을 기뻐했다'고 밝혔다.
맥과이어는 지난해 삼성에서 한 시즌을 보내 국내 팬들에게도 잘 종로스카이차 알려진 선수다. 21경기에서 4승8패, 112⅓이닝, 100탈삼진, 평균자책점 5.05을 기록했다. 맥과이어는 그해 8월 햄스트링 부상 여파로 웨이버 공시됐다.
끝내 시즌 도중 방출을 피하지 못했지만, 퇴출 위기에서 노히트노런 진기록을 작성하며 강렬한 인상을 남겼다. 맥과이어는 지난해 4월 21일 대전 한화전에서 토트넘중계 9이닝 2사사구 13탈삼진 무실점으로 KBO리그 역대 14번째 노히트노런을 달성했다. 삼성은 16-0으로 승리했고, 맥과이어는 덕분에 4개월 더 삼성 유니폼을 입을 수 있었다.
