국내 언론과 가진 인터뷰에서 한국 작가 가운데 김애란의 소설을 치켜세운 적이 있다. 간담회에서 그는 이와 관련된 질문이 나오자 “김애란의 단편은 뛰어나다. 중국의 비슷한 또래의 작가, 그 누구보다 힘 있는 소설을 쓴다”고 격찬했다. “섬세한 감성과 삶을 향한 사랑도 느낄 수 있다”고도 했다. 이어 “한강이나 황석영의 작품도 인상 깊게 읽었다”고 덧붙였다. 어디서 영감을 얻는지 묻자 “내 작품 가운데 ‘연월일’을 빼면 특별한 영감을 받아 쓴 작품은 없다”고 답했다. 그러면서 “작가로서 ‘현재의 중국’에서 태어났다는 걸 행운으로 여긴다. 중국에선 많은 사건과 사고가 벌어진다. 스토리가 넘쳐나는 곳이다. 이런 나라에서 살다 보면 작가로서 특별한 영감이 필요하지 않다”고 설명했다.
