동서식품은 한국 특유의 ‘빨리빨리’ 문화가 커피 믹스의 탄생의 배경이라고 설명한다. 끓인 물과 종이컵(물 계량에 편리하다)만 있으면 어디에서나 빠르게 균일한 맛의 커피를 마실 수 있다. 76년 무렵 동서식품이 프리마를 생산할 수 있게 되면서 제품 다각화의 의미도 있었다. 이렇게 나온 커피믹스는 지난 2017년 특허청 설문조사에서 ‘한국을 빛낸 발명품 10선’ 중 5위로 선정되는 영광을 안았다. (1위 훈민정음, 2위 거북선, 3위 금속활자, 4위 온돌이다)
