미국 스포츠전문매체 ‘디애슬레틱’은 22일 세인트루이스 카디널스 담당 마크 색슨 기자의 기사를 통해 추신수의 빌라포장이사 행선지 중 하나로 세인트루이스를 언급했다.
전제는 지면타자 제도 도입이다. ‘지명타자 제도가 세인트루이스의 한심한 장타력에도 도움을 줄 수 있을까’라는 제목으로 시작되는 이 기사에 추신수가 영입 추천 후보로 거론되고 있다.
추신수는 이번 시즌을 마치고 자유계약선수(FA)시장에 나왔다. 앞서 텍사스와 7년 1억3000만 달러 계약을 마친 추신수는 원 사다리차 소속팀과 재계약할 가능성은 극히 적다. 텍사스가 즉시 전력감보다는 먼 미래를 보고 유망주 수집에 적극적으로 나서고 있기 때문이다. 추신수는 2시즌 이상 더 뛸 수 있는 팀을 찾고 있다.
추신수는 텍사스에서 뛴 7년 동안 타율 0.260 114홈런 355타점 등을 기록하며 활약했다. 세월이 흐르면서 그의 포지션은 외야수보다는 지명타자로 바뀌기 시작했다. FA 시장에서도 추신수는 지명타자 자원으로 강북용달이사 분류되고 있다.
그런 가운데 내셔널리그에 소속되어있는 세인트루이스가 추신수에게 적합한 팀이 될 수 있는 가능성이 거론됐다.
